A Peek at What We Do...

  1. Hi everyone. From the pics you can see many children we serve while in Leon.

Sometimes it is easy to serve them...see smiling faces...other times like in the above pictures my heart is broken for them.

Many are on the streets for hours hanging around, like the boy at the top sitting beside his bike. He was sitting with a sad look on his face. We asked our translator, Why is he so sad, he asked the little boy what we could do for him, "he was hungry, the interpretor said". My friend Diane had a package of trail mix in her bag and shared what she had. No one else had anything to give to him.

The little boy standing at the fence with Jim Dean. We could not figure out why the little boy was crying. His momma dropped him off at the church yard for VBS and he was shy and didnt want to stay. Eventually our team was able to coax him into the sanctuary to watch the puppet show going on.

The little girl holding the plate with rice and fish is from a ministry Pastor Felix developed. He had a food ministry going on within his church. Members gathered and prepared food to hand out at a local garbage dump to the people who lived on the outskirts of the dump. You can see how happy the little girl is to get this plate of food.

The little boy in the opposite corner with the beige striped shirt on is with his friends. They joined us in the field next to the child protection center to play one evening. I asked why his hair was so light, I was told that children who do not receive adequate nutrition suffer from vitamin deficiency and they lose pigament in their hair and have lighter skin.

Please pray for the many who are going to bed at night hungry. There are many.

The way some children have learned to cope with their hunger is by huffing aersole can fumes. I asked if this was a prevelant thing that happens, "Yes, It take their hunger away" I asked if there are agencies that help with the addcition part of this form of coping, yes but I have to get the info. thank you for the suggestion she said.

Children...many many my heart just aches. Sometimes after returning I see their little eyes as I close mine to go to sleep. God protect the little children from harm, help them to find food to eat so they do not go to bed hungry, help get food so they do not form addiction.

Thank you God for being near them in their greatest need.
